Privacy Policy

Who we are

AnglerTrove publishes digital fly-fishing guides and reference material, and runs River Alerts, a subscription that emails river-condition reports. It is operated by an independent sole proprietor based in the Philippines. You can reach us at [email protected], which is also the address for any privacy question or request.

What we collect

We keep this deliberately small. We collect:

• Your email address: given at checkout so we can deliver your files and send your receipt, and separately if you choose to join our mailing list.
• Your name: only if our payment provider passes it to us with the order.
• Order and transaction references: what you bought, the amount, the currency, and the order identifier our payment provider gives us.
• Download activity: how many times your download link has been used, and when it expires, so we can enforce the limits described in our Terms and re-issue a link if yours stops working.
• Campaign attribution: if you arrive from one of our email campaigns, the campaign parameters in that link are stored in your browser session so we know which campaign led to a sale.
• Technical information: standard web server logs including IP address, browser type and the pages requested, used for security, troubleshooting and fraud prevention.
• Anything you send us: the content of emails you send to our support address.
• Your River Alerts account, if you use River Alerts: your email address, when your free trial started and ends, the river sections you follow, your email settings (which emails, what time, your time zone), and records of the sign-in links we sent you (when, and the IP address that asked for them).
• Your River Alerts subscription, as Lemon Squeezy reports it: plan, your price and any discount, status, renewal and end dates, and your card’s brand and last four digits. Never the full card number.
• Your agreement to automatic renewal: when you agreed and the exact words, including which version of our Terms, recorded each time you start a checkout.
• River Alerts email records: which reports and alerts we sent you and when, whether they were delivered, and any bounce or spam complaint, so we can stop emailing an address that bounces.

Buying a Playbook needs no account. River Alerts uses one, signed in with a link we email you; there is no password. We never see or store your card details. See Payments below.

Why we process it

• To take payment and deliver the product you bought.
• To run River Alerts: show your rivers, send the emails you chose, and know whether your trial or plan is active.
• To send you a receipt and your download instructions.
• To answer your questions when you contact us.
• To prevent fraud and abuse, including limiting how often a download link can be used.
• To understand which campaigns and pages lead to sales, in aggregate.
• To send marketing email, only if you have opted in.
• To meet our tax, accounting and other legal obligations.

Payments

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, who act as our Merchant of Record. Your card details are entered on their systems. AnglerTrove never receives, processes or stores your card number. What we receive is confirmation that a payment succeeded, along with your email address, the amount, and an order reference. For a River Alerts plan we also receive its status and renewal dates, and your card’s brand and last four digits, so your account page can show them.

Because Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record, they also calculate and remit any sales tax or VAT due on your purchase, and their own privacy policy covers how they handle your information.

Who else we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we need to operate, and only so far as each needs it:

• Lemon Squeezy: payment processing and tax, as Merchant of Record.
• EmailOctopus: our marketing email platform, if you have opted in.
• Google Workspace: our business email, so support messages, receipts and River Alerts sign-in links pass through it.
• Resend: delivers River Alerts emails, so it receives your email address and the content of those emails.
• Our river-conditions data provider: we ask it about river sections; we do not send it your personal information.
• Our hosting and infrastructure providers: who store the site and its database on our behalf.
• Affiliate networks and retailers: only if you follow a commercial link, and only to the extent described under Affiliate links below. We pass them nothing about you; the visit itself is what they see.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to.

Email

Transactional email, such as your receipt and download link, is sent because you bought something and cannot be opted out of. River Alerts emails are the service you signed up for: each kind can be turned off from any of them (one click) or from your account, and the notices about your free trial ending stop too if you unsubscribe from all of them. Reminders before a yearly renewal, and once a year on a monthly plan, are part of your subscription and are sent regardless. Receipts for River Alerts payments come from Lemon Squeezy. Marketing email is separate: we only send it if you opted in, every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect emails about a purchase or your River Alerts account.

Analytics

We record a small number of events about how the site is used, such as which page was viewed and whether a checkout was started, so we can improve it. These are held in aggregate. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not pass payment details or the contents of your order into analytics.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site go to retailers and may earn us a commission on a qualifying purchase. Our affiliate disclosure explains what that does and does not mean; this section covers only what happens to your information.

When you follow one of those links, the retailer or the affiliate network operating their programme may set a cookie in your browser, on their own domain, to record that the visit came from us. That cookie is theirs, not ours, and we cannot read it. Their privacy policy governs it, and it is set only if you actually follow such a link.

What reaches us from those programmes is limited to aggregate reporting: that a link was clicked, and later whether a sale was attributed to it. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details, or a list of what you bought from a retailer. We do not combine anything from an affiliate programme with your order records here, and we do not use any of it to build an advertising profile.

We also record a click on an outbound commercial link in our own aggregate analytics, in the same way and with the same limits as everything described under Analytics above.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies that are necessary for the site to function, such as keeping your session secure while you check out, keeping you signed in to River Alerts, and remembering which campaign brought you here. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Cookies set by a retailer after you follow an affiliate link are theirs and are covered above.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept for as long as we are required to keep them for tax and accounting purposes. Download links expire on their own schedule. Marketing email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

River Alerts accounts, followed rivers and email settings are kept until you ask us to delete them. Records of River Alerts emails sent are deleted after 180 days, except the required notices about your plan (its confirmation and renewal reminders). Sign-in link records are deleted 30 days after they are used or expire. Subscription records, your agreement to automatic renewal and the required notices about your plan are kept while your plan is active and for 5 years after it ends (or after a checkout you did not complete), then deleted, unless tax or accounting rules require longer. We keep them even if you ask us to delete your account, because they are how we show we followed the law on automatic renewals. Deleting your account does not cancel a plan with Lemon Squeezy: cancel it first, or ask us to.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will respond.

AnglerTrove is operated from the Philippines, and our handling of personal information is subject to the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173). Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. If you believe we have handled your information incorrectly, contact us first and we will try to put it right.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS, purchased files are never publicly accessible and are served only through expiring, limited-use links, and card details never reach our systems. No service can promise perfect security, and we do not claim to, but we keep the amount of information we hold deliberately small so there is less at risk.

Children

AnglerTrove is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
